Grind those with a purple of the type of gun you want as per normal and do a luneshine grind. Save the game before you do your grind by going to your badass challenge points w/e menu and turning them off and back on real quick. The moonstone grind should cost about 213 moonstones at level 70.

According to the wiki, you need to input specific recipes into the grinder. The recipes, are as follows, and require items of the same rarity in every case but the legendary case: Legendary of desired type: 2 legendary weapons + 1 purple weapon of the desired type. Up one rarity level (nonweapons) 3 items of same type (grenade mod, shield, etc)

On top of my head, you can't use MG on 3 purple weapons to get a legendary, it has to be a purple weapon + 2 legendaries + MG for a guaranteed legendary of your choice (the purple weapon). The moonstone grind showing up after the last patch was part of the glitch that resulted and it the hotfix released the next day patched up the moonstone option away along with increasing game stability (a lot of people we're experiencing crashes upon the regular grind). #1. to grind legendary you need 2 legendary 1 purple the purple weapon you use will become the new legendary that the recipe. Get two Thingies from Iwarja, get a purple item and moonstone grind. The level of the gun will be the average levels of the guns rounded DOWN and the purple gun will determine the TYPE of gun.

Even tried 3 Luneshine purples and it won't grind. Level doesn't seem to matter with white, green or blue grinds. Not sure why it would matter for purple. You can't grind purple and above at random, after that you need "recipes", example: 2 Legendaries+1 Purple=Legendary of whatever weapon type that purple is.

luneshine weapon could only be green or higher due to that moonstone will guranteed a higher quality for every grind. The only tip I could give you is save your game, and grind. If you don't get a luneshine, altf4 and repeat until you do unless you're using a Mac. Luneshine hyperion beam weapons are OP. #2.
